Horror Images Won’t Last Long in the Western World

There are some seriously horrific images in a Catholic Online article of children that were beheaded. [UPDATE: #ISISmediaBlackout: Link to article removed]. There was a time, not so long ago, when even thinking of publishing these kind of images would have been repugnant.

The thing the Islamic State doesn’t understand about the Western World is that, after a short period of repugnance, their scare tactics aren’t going work anymore. This is the problem with media over-saturation, you can only keep the fever pitch up for so long, and then the defense system in our brains kicks in and renders their meaning as passe. Having started at the top of the ladder, their advertising campaign will have nowhere to go. Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing will be the issue of of its context.
